Open Water Certification requires successful completion of classroom instruction, confined water sessions (pool training), and an open water experience (ocean or fresh water). Here is a detailed description of what to expect in your SCUBA Adventure. i) Dive Planning and Dive Science Five classroom sessions. Learn how the human body adapts to underwater conditions and how to plan your own dives using Dive Management Techniques. This phase of your learning will include discussion on the roles, activities, and conditions that every SCUBA diver encounters and the variables that influence dive excursions. |

ii) Dive Management Skills Four sessions of hands-on training getting into the water with Dive Ops professionals who will assist you in planning, conducting, and managing your dives. You will learn to identify risks, recognize a diver in distress, and self-rescue. Our Dive Ops professionals will provide you with the time required for you to feel confident in all skills. Personal Gear required for hands-on training include Mask, Fins, Snorkle, Booties, and Timing Device (water proof watch or dive computer). Do not purchase your gear before class. Your first class will teach you about selecting proper gear for your interests/activities. If you already have gear, please bear in mind that all gear used in class must be approved by the instructor prior to the first training session. Your instructors will provide other gear (Tanks, Regulators, Gauges, BCDs) for your use in class. iii) Qualification Dives A supervised dive excursion put everything that you have learned to work in a dive environment under the supervision of an Instructor. You will plan, conduct and problem-solve five dive excursions. Qualification Dives are required in order to receive a certification card that will allow you to dive on your own. Typically, a Qualification Dive excursion involves at least two days of diving. Trip costs are not included in the price of the class. We do allow more flexibility for our Qualification Dives than anyone around. We conduct local excursions and day trips, we visit the Gulf, the East Coast, the Carribean or anywhere in the world. Pre-register for a class and receive your Dive Student package. Students 10 years old and older (under 15 must be accompanied by an adult student or certified Diver) who are in good physical condition may participate. Participants must be able to swim and will have to demonstrate this ability by performing an underwater swim of 50 feet in distance as well as floating for 10 minutes by the end of the course.
When it comes to Dive Education, you get what you pay for. Before you enroll in any SCUBA class, do your homework. (See What to Look for in a SCUBA Class). |
